Workshop on Muslim Marriage Contracts & Ante-Nuptial Contracts

The Muslim Family Law Hub Hosted an Engaging Workshop on Muslim Marriage Contracts & Ante-Nuptial Contracts at the Panorama Islamic Centre in April
The Muslim Family Law Hub recently hosted an engaging and enlightening workshop on Muslim marriage contracts and ante-nuptial agreements within the South African legal framework at the Panorama Islamic Centre on 12 April 2025. Despite the inclement weather, we were heartened by the remarkable turnout, particularly the strong presence of young community members. Our director, Fatima Essop, presented compelling Quranic evidence highlighting the significance of documenting agreements in writing. She engaged in an insightful dialogue with attorney Kaamilah Paulse, exploring how provisions from Muslim marriage contracts can be seamlessly integrated into notarised ante-nuptial agreements. The workshop culminated in interactive focus groups, where participants engaged in spirited discussions about the critical considerations couples must navigate when contemplating Muslim marriage contracts and/or ante-nuptial agreements. This successful event marks another step in our commitment to providing practical legal guidance that honours both religious principles and South African law.
