Empowering Women, Building Legacies

The Muslim Family Law Hub co-hosted “Build Your Legacy,” a transformative Women’s Month program in partnership with Legacy Fiduciary Services & Estate Planning, Rumana Mahomed, and Nexia SAB&T. Attendees were greeted with a warm welcome and opening du’ā from our director, Yasmina Francke.
The event featured a dynamic lineup of speakers who brought unique and complementary insights:
Fatima Essop, our director, opened the programme with reflections on creating a positive Islamic legacy, drawing from the Prophetic tradition of three lasting deeds: continual charity, beneficial knowledge, and righteous children. She emphasised the importance of investing in charitable initiatives that support and uplift women in our community. Rumana Mahomed shared essential guidance on estate planning for women, bridging Islamic inheritance principles with the South African legal framework. Showkat Mukadam followed with practical insights into estate administration, helping attendees to understand how to protect and manage their legacies with confidence.
Suraya Williams, entrepreneur and changemaker, inspired the audience with her personal business journey, highlighting the importance of perseverance, vision, and faith. Special thanks to Gadija Ahjum for programme direction, and Sakeenah Dramat for closing the event with heartfelt gratitude and du’ā.
The well-attended event concluded with valuable networking opportunities, and attendees expressed deep appreciation for the enriching and informative programme. Guests also received bespoke goodie bags and enjoyed spot prizes throughout the program. Together, we’re building legacies that transcend generations.
